JibJab Update
Correction 8/5: It is the publishing company that owns the rights to "This Land." Arlo took no umbrage and I blog corrected. There's more at Wired News on the thing that wouldn't die: JibJabbing For Artists' Rights
----------------------
Apparently, Woodie Guthrie's son, Arlo took umbrage at the use of his father's folksy hands-across-America classic by the JibJab.com boys. He's threatening to sue for defamation.
Is it political satire or copyright infringement? See the discussion over at ReasonOnline.

Not so. Arlo did an interview with NPR in which he says, "Well, I really can't speak for him. I can just tell you that when I saw it a few weeks ago I thought it was one of the funniest commentaries if not one of the most directly inspired... I called my sister, I called my friends, I sent everybody a link to the site so that they could go see it. And we've all been laughing about it since then. I think my dad would have absolutely loved the humor in it."
It's the publishing firm that owns the copyright that's suing.
Right you are. It was reported incorrectly earlier in the day that it was the son who was suing.
Like any good journalista, I will publish a correction.
