Unbidden

I live on the first floor of an all-glass Mies Van der Rohe style building. Floor to ceiling glass, mind you, with concrete columns for support and white vertical blinds.

While walking down the path toward the back door of my building, I happened to glance toward my neighbor's home. His blinds were closed - mostly.

At first I thought, "Hey, he painted his columns." Then it dawned on me. What I really saw was the hind end of a naked, 350 pound man standing at the stove.

This vision came to me unbidden.

From Zesmeralda's blog, Does This Look Infected?

The rules are simple...

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

I opened Azar Nafisi's "Reading Lolita in Tehran" and the fifth sentence is:

"That was the beginning of it all."

Pass it on.

A Good Word

I like a good word. One that rolls around the palate in such satisfying ways. Most times, we make word choices out of necessity (think business meeting) or economy (think tiny text box or flea's attention span). Occasionally there is the beauty, but rarely is there an embarrassment of riches such as those found today.

Because of Television w/Out Pity, foofaraw, cahotage, jactitation, floccillation and pitapatation smacked me across the face today. Ouch! And thanks.
